I started this blog to show support for pet adoption versus animal breeding. Pet adoption is growing increasingly popular and is a wonderful way to take a pet into your home while contributing to stop pet overpopulation. While it is understandable that many people prefer specific breeds of animals and want a pure-bred (this occurs more with dogs than cats), millions of helpless animals are euthanized every year due to overpopulation.
While it is difficult to pinpoint exactly how many animals are euthanized each year (animal shelters are not required to keep records of this), it is estimated that, in 1997, approximately 64% of animals that entered shelters were euthanized.
If you think about this logically, people who own pets should be animal lovers who have respect for life. If you ask me, it is more important to have a mixed-breed animal than to see an animals life cut short because there is just no room for them.
