Animal Abuse

Animal abuse is a big problem in this country and is another thing, other than euthanasia, that could be reduced by choosing animal adoption instead of animal breeding.
According to www.Pet-Abuse.com, there were about 43,038 cases of animal abuse in the United States in 2008. Of those 43,038, 5,603 died as a result of the abuse. As an animal lover, this is a devestating statistic.
The bottom line is overpopulation. There are millions of animals and not enough available and/or willing households to take them in as pet. Every animal that is a result of breeding just adds to the problem. Why don't we take in the animals that already need a home instead of adding to the problem by breeding more? The problem of overpopulation will not go away overnight, but reducing the number of animals will reduce the devestating effects of animal abuse.
